California same-sex marraige ban overturned by judge

The placard makers are making a fortune on this topic

A US federal judge has overturned California’s ban on same-sex marriage. US District Judge Vaughn Walker found it unconstitutionally discriminated against same-sex couples who wanted to marry.

The now overturned ammendment to the law was passed by voters in 2008 by only 52% to 48%. It banned same-sex marriage, although the state allowed same-sex civil unions.

Don’t think this is the end, because in a place like America it is only the beginning. The long and winding road will end up in the Supreme Same-sex marriage in the US

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger welcomed the judgement, saying “For the hundreds of thousands of Californians in gay and lesbian households who are managing their day-to-day lives, this decision affirms the full legal protections and safeguards I believe everyone deserves.” Go Arnie, a predictable statement but worth including because using your name gives this story a higher search engine rating.

Don’t break out the wedding dresses and stuff just yet though because Judge Walker is still deciding if he will stay his ruling pending an appeal or not.

Either way I predict a Californain future filled with lots of placards and lots of emotion. Don’t think it will help the deficit to go away either.
