Riaz skittles England – Prior and Broad save disaster

5 for 63 This is most wonderful, let us all take turns to hug Wahab

Wahab Riaz’s debut for Pakistan got off to a flying start with 5 for 63 in Englands first innings of the third test at the Oval.

Already 2-nil up in the four test series Strauss won the toss and decided that cloudy conditions held no fear for him and chose to bat. At 94 for 7 it wasn’t looking to flash. However Matt Prior and Stuart Broad came to the rescue with a record stand against Pakistan of 119 for the eigth wicket. England were eventually all out for 233 (Alistair Cook 6). In reply at close of play Pakistan were 48 for 1.

Pakistan have put in performances like this throughout the summer against Australia and England, but they have not been able to do it for 5 days. Their fans wil be hoping that this time will be different and they can keep the series alive.

Pakistan 48 for 1 (Hameed 36*, Riaz 0*) trail England 233 (Prior 84*, Broad 48, Riaz 5-63) by 185 runs.
