Scarlett Johansson favourite for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo role

Yes perfectly cast - dark hair, tattoo's, piercings and flat chest

Scarlett Johansson is reportedly the favourite at the moment for the role of Lisbeth Salander in the Hollywood remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

This is the edgiest female role on offer in Hollywood for a long time, but it is surprising that so many glamour stars are queuing up to play a heavily-tattooed, flat chested, computer hacker with enough body piercings to send an airport metal detecter gaga.

In the hunt with Johansson are Emma Watson, Carey Mulligan, Ellen Page and Natalie Portman. It is still not clear though whether Director, David Fincher will go with an established actress of ply the safer route of putting in a relative unknown, who would probably be a better fit for the character created by author Stieg Larsson.

A too bigger ‘name’ female lead could become a distraction to a powerful story. It is bad enough that James Bond actor Daniel Craig has been cast as a middle aged, slightly unattractive and slightly overweight journalist Mikael Blomkvist.

The project is on a bit of a hiding to nothing anyway as the original film was so well crafted and acted it is going to be hard to top.

The Hollywood remake in english will be aimed at a broader mass market that probably wouldn’t have been able to sit through the sub-titled Swedish language original.

Even if the movie turns out to be a dog, thousands of fans of the original will flock to see it just to be outraged at how bad it was.
