Toy Story 3 breaks box office records

Disney now has one billion reasons to do a Toy Story 4

Toy Story 3 became the top grossing animated film of all time in the United Kingdom over the weekend, and it has spent six straight weeks at the top at the box office in Japan. With a $539.3 million overseas haul on top of a $402 million US domestic take, Toy Story 3 has officially knocked off Finding Nemo to become Disney’s biggest-grossing animated feature ever overseas.

It also became the top-grossing animated movie ever worldwide, passing Shrek 2’s $919.8 million, and has moved in to ninth place on the all-time worldwide chart with $940.1 million. Immediately in it’s sights are Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone which it should pass after next weekend.

Not bad for a bunch of suburban toys. Disney will be happy with the billion dollar return so far on their $200 million investement. Especially in a Summer where most studio releases have been sent straight to the turkey farm by discerning movie fans.
