Chennai Super Kings win Champions League T20 title

Mike Hussey doing what he does best, watching the ball onto the face of the bat and scoring runs - lots of runs.

IPL side Chennai Super Kings have crushed the Warriors to win the Champions League Twenty20 cricket tournament in South Africa.

The IPL Champion Super Kings won by 8 wickets at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg with Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey both scoring half centuries for Chennai. Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit the winning runs with six balls to spare after Vijay and Hussey had put on 103 for the first wicket.

Earlier the Warriors had got off to a flying start after winning the toss and batting, with captain Davy Jacobs hitting 34 off 21 balls. But when Ashwell Prince and Jacob’s fell in quick succession the brakes went on.

Spin bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin and Muttiah Muralitharan both went for only four runs an over and snared five wickets between them as the Warriors inventive strokeplay that had gotten them into the final proved their undoing.

The Warriors have a weak lower order and rely on the top order batsmen to post the majority of the total. They only managed to get through to 128 for seven in their 20 overs.

Chennai coach Stephen Fleming will be one of the most secure jobwise in world cricket at the moment with the IPL and the Champions League titles in the bag. I guess when you are at the top the only way is down. But it is better to win and fall than never win at all. Just a bit of newswarped wisdom there for you.

Chennai Super Kings 132 for 2 (Vijay 58, Hussey 51*) Warriors 128 (Murali 3-16, Ashwin 2-16) by 8 wickets
