England win against Pakistan in first match of Twenty20 series

Always a bugger when you turn up to a fancy dress party and some else is wearing the same outfit. Yardy and Morgan are not put off though and get down to some serious man-love - bats and all.

England won the first of two Twenty20 cricket internationals against Pakistan at Cardiff today.

Batting first the Pakistani XI cobbled together from previously banned players and players about to be banned only managed 126 for 4 in their 20 overs. Umar Akmal top scored with 35 not out but it was never going to be enough. Graeme Swann was the pick of the England bowlers taking two wickets for only 14 runs in his four overs.

England in reply got off to a wobbly start and were on the brink at the halfway stage at 62-5. Someone got a message out to the team that they were in fact the current World T20 Champions and the timely reminder spurred them on to a resounding 17 run win. In T20 cricket a 17 run win is like winning with a day to spare in a Test Match.

England had Eoin Morgan (38 not out) and Michael Yardy (35 not out) to thank for the win with a 67 run unbeaten partnership that saw them home.

All international cricket matches involving Pakistan at the moment are being referred to the third umpire before the result is ratified. With no new revelations coming from The News of the World at this stage (well not about this game anyway) it looks like this might have been a ‘clean’ game of cricket.
