India beat Australia in first Test by 1 wicket

India's hero VVS Laxman - Well played Australia too for showing us why Test Cricket is so great.

India has beaten Australia by 1 wicket in a nail biting finish to the 1st Test in Mohali.

An 81 run partnership for the 9th wicket between VVS Laxman and Ishant Sharma proved decisive. But it went down to the wire when Sharma was controversially given out lbw to Hilfenhaus with 11 runs still to get.

India’s hero VVS Laxman was unbeaten at the end on 73 and Ojha was 5 not out.

For Australia Hilfenhaus took 4 wickets for 57 runs and Bollinger 3 wickets for 32 runs.

Earlier in th day it looked like it was going to be Australia’s game in a canter. Night watchman Zaheer was out early for 10, then India lost the big wicket of Sachin Tendulkar for 38 runs. Dhoni was run out on 2 and Harbhajan was caught by Ponting of Bollinger also for 2.

At 124 for 8 it looked like a big victory for Australia but Laxman and Sharma never gave up. Laxman had been suffering from back spasm’s and Sharma bravely faced 92 balls for his highest Test score of 31.
