Phil Mikelson does a fabulous 'teapot'. Why you ask? Because he has now lost the most matches by an American in the 83 year history of the Ryder Cup. Nice one Phil.
The foursomes pairs of Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell evened the ledger with comfortable wins.
In the fourballs, Padraig Harrington and Ross Fisher, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Peter Hanson, and Ian Poulter and Martin Kaymer stretched the lead. The Molinari brothers halved their match against Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar.
The heavy rain that has drenched the Celtic Manor course has forced organisers to shift the singles matches for to Monday for the first time in the events history. Newswarped asks what do they expect, running it in the United Kingdom well into Autumn.
With Tiger Woods having suffered his worst defeat in Ryder Cup play (6&5) and Phil Mickelson achieving the unenviable statistic of becoming the American with more defeats than any other since the Ryder Cup started in 1927 (17 from 33 matches), the Americans are looking down and out.
Don’t write them off though. American sportspeople have a desire to win and a self belief that eclipses even the Australians. Europe are certainly in the box seat, but if the Americans can get ahead early then anything can happen. The smart money is still on Europe though.
A European win will result in a smiling Colin Montgomerie. Now that is something that many won’t see again in their lifetime.
