Champions League: FC Copenhagen 0 – Chelsea 2

Nicolas Anelka nails a shot and keeps Uncle Carlo in a job for another week.

Chelsea have won their Champions League Round of 16 first leg tie against FC Copenhagen at Parken stadium with Nicolas Anelka scoring in each half.

Carlo Ancelotti will have been grateful for the win after exiting the FA Cup on the weekend.

The Danish side were rusty following their winter break and had not played a serious competitive match for weeks.

Nicolas Anelka gratefully received a wayward pass from ex-Chelsea winger Jesper Gronkjaer in the 17th minute to give Chelsea the lead.

In the 54th minute Anelka got on the end of a reverse pass from Frank Lampard to double the lead.

Didier Drogba was left on the bench again as Fernando Torres went in search of his first goal for Chelsea. Reports are he is still searching. Drogba eventually got 20 fruitless minutes at the back end of the match, replacing a tiring Anelka.

If Chelsea can take out the second leg at Stamford Bridge then a Quarter Final Champions League berth might mean Carlo does not need to hunt through the situations vacant pages as vigourously as he has been. Roman might have other ideas though.
