Former Doctor Who star Elisabeth Sladen dies

Nobody could say "doctor" quite like Elisabeth Sladen.

Doctor Who star Elisabeth Sladen, who was also in spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures, has died from cancer aged 63.

Sladen appeared as Sarah Jane Smith, Doctor Who’s assistant, between 1973 and 1976. She played opposite Jon Pertwee for three seasons and the start of Tom Baker’s stint as the doctor in the long running BBC sci-fi television series.

The Liverpool-born actress did theatre work for many years but returned to Doctor Who for guest roles. In 2007 she starred in the first of four seasons of the spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures on children’s channel CBBC.

Sladen had been battling cancer for some time but had kept it out of the public domain. She leaves behind a husband – Brian Miller who is also an actor – and daughter Sadie.

Newswarped loves Doctor Who and has to own up to having a boyhood crush on Elisabeth Sladen.
