Pirates of the Caribbean Five underway

Sorry pumpkins but Johnny is way sexier without the pirate costume.

Heavyweight Hollywood Producer Jerry Bruckheimer says he has a screenplay in the works for a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides which is due out in May, the fifth film will focus on the adventures Captain Jack Sparrow. But Bruckheimer is not giving No.5’s plot line away just yet.

Bruckheimer says that at test screenings of On Stranger Tides, “the audience told us what they loved about it is that it was fresh, it was new, it was a whole new story. So that will carry over into the next one, too, to give it something fresh and different.”

That Bruckheimer and Disney have been able to lure Johnny Depp back for what looks like five ‘Pirates’ movies shows how much Depp loves the character.

Depp has always done his own thing and chosen projects that interest him. To be a part of a big budget action franchise is not his normal style. I guess when you are a style setter like Depp, then whatever you choose to do is cool.

On Stranger Tides is directed by Rob Marshall who propelled Chicago to Oscar glory. It has been shot using 3D digital camera’s.

Unlike Avatar that was shot in that format but mostly done on sound stages, it will be intersting to see what Marshall has done with the technology given the wealth of outdoor location shoots in On Stranger Tides.

While Bruckheimer is claiming On Stranger Tides is a stand alone story it does see the return of familiar characters in Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa and Ian McShane as Blackbeard.

Penelope Cruz has been added to the cast as Blackbeards daughter. It will be fascinating to see how she survives an action flick. For Marshall, her inclusion is either going to be a stroke of genius or an embarrasment. The audiences will make their minds up very quickly.
