Searchers have retrieved one of the two black box flight recorders from the ocean floor, belonging to Air France flight 447 that crashed into the Atlantic in 2009, off the coast of Brazil.

Last week the outer casing of the flight recorder was found, but not its memory pods.

France’s Bureau of Investigation said in a statement that the device was “in good physical condition”.

The Air France Airbus crashed into the Atlantic on 1 June 2009, killing all 228 people on board. It was four hours into a flight from Rio de Jnaeiro to Paris.

There were 30 nationalities among the passengers and crew which has fueled international interest in finding the cause of the crash.

Investigators have always said thatwithout the flight recorders the exact cause of the tragedy may never be known.
