Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver split

Unfortunately Arnie and Maria don't have much to smile about at the moment. Hopefully they can both work through it.

Hollywood star and former California governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced he and his wife Maria Shriver are separating.

A spokesman for Arnold issued a statement on Monday night that said after “a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer,” they decided to live apart while they work on the future of their relationship.

They acknowledge that they’re both going through a “time of great personal and professional transition.” Both will continue to parent their four children together.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver have been married for 25 years.

Arnold finished his second term as governor in January and has been on the speech circuit raking in the dollars ever since.

The marriage was always a curous one. A body builder turned actor and the journalist niece of John F Kennedy. They made it work though and have four children together.

It is a shame that after so long together and all they have been through that the relationship has ended.

Maria’s father Sargent Shriver died in January this year. Sargent was a former Democratic vice-presidential candidate and the creator of the Peace Corp. In 2003 he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
