First suicide from worlds tallest building

The Burj Khalifa scored a lot of firsts when it was built. A first suicide is not much to get excited about though.

A young man in his 20’s has fallen from the 147th floor of the Burj Khalifa, the worlds tallest free standing structure.

The building’s owner, Emaar Properties, confirmed “an incident involving a male” took place on Tuesday morning.

“The concerned authorities have confirmed that it was a suicide, and we are awaiting the final report,” Emaar’s statement said.

The man, only fell as far as the 108th floor, landing on a deck. Unfortunately 39 floors is still a tragically long way to fall.

Apparently the man had a dispute with his employer after his request for leave to go on a holiday was turned down.

Any death is a tragedy, but for someone so young to think there was no alternative to living is doubly sad.

It is the first known suicide from the 160-storey skyscraper, which opened in January 2010.

No argument with an employer is worth dying for. Unfortunately in the heat of the moment when we are under stress we can make unwise choices.
