French writer Tristane Banon claims Strauss-Kahn tried to rape her

We get the impression that Mr Strauss-Kahn thinks that any young lady alone with him is fair game. (Tristane Banon-pictured)

For Dominique Strauss-Kahn the IMF chief in jail in New York and refused bail on sex charges, things just got worse.

Young French writer Tristane Banon, 31, who is the god-daughter of Mr Strauss-Kahn’s second wife, has described how she escaped from a sexual assualt by Mr Strauss-Kahn in 2002.

Tristane’s claims were aired in a 2007 documentary but Strauss-Kahn’s name was ‘bleeped’ out. That documantary was aired again in France over the weekend.

Tristane Banon says she asked Mr Strauss-Kahn for an interview to help with a book she was writing. She says she ended up having to fight him off and decribed him as a ”rutting chimpanzee”.

”It finished very badly, very violently … I kicked him. When we were fighting I mentioned the word rape to make him afraid but it didn’t have any effect. I managed to get out,” she said.

Mr Strauss-Kahn was refused bail when he appeared in a New York court late yesterday to face charges he sexually assaulted a hotel maid in Manhattan at the weekend.

His appearance was delayed for a day as prosecutors sought additional evidence and so he could submit to a forensic medical examination.

Banon’s mother is Anne Mansouret, a Socialist Party official. She has told of her terrible regret for having dissuaded her daughter from taking legal action against Strauss-Kahn.

Mansouret said that at the time she believed his behaviour had been out of character. ”Today I am sorry to have discouraged my daughter from complaining. I bear a heavy responsibility.”

She said he was otherwise a ”warm, sympathetic and extremely talented man”. However, the attack had left her daughter “traumatised and depressed” and she remained shocked by what had happened.

Ms Mansouret said it seemed clear he had ”difficulty controlling his urges” and while she was neither ”a doctor or psychiatrist … there is something violent in this predatory move”.

In 2008 Strauss-Kahn was forced to apologise for what he described as an ”error of judgment” after he was accused of abusing his power and position as IMF head following an affair with a junior colleague.

The young woman in question, Piroska Nagy, said at the time that hers was not an isolated case and that others had been harassed by Strauss-Kahn.

Newswarped is wondering if anyone can see a pattern forming here?

Until last weekend, Dominique Strauss-Kahn was expected to run and probably win the French Presidency as a socialist candidate. Now it is not certain if he will be leaving the United States for several years if the charges agianst him are proven.

No wonder Strauss-Kahn has engaged Michael Jackson’s former defence lawyer Benjamin Brafman who got Michael off child molestation charges.
