League: Rabbitohs Sam Burgess out for season

Not quite sure how the Rabbitohs are supposed to get over having four stars injured, but then again the club have always been fighters.

South Sydney Rabbitohs forward Sam Burgess is out for the rest of the NRL season after undergoing an arthroscopy on his injured ankle.

Rather than wait for the official announcement, Burgess used the currently favoured mode of communication for sporting stars – Twitter.

The Englishman told fans “thanks for all your well wishes. Opp wasn’t the best. More damage than expected. Need a screw. Out for the season. Gutted.”

South Sydney seem to be cursed this season with injury. Burgess is one of four Rabbitohs stars to be sidelined with serious injury.

Captain, Roy Asotasi broke his hand against the Cronulla Sharks last Friday, and is expected to be sidelined for four months.

Scott Geddes and Luke Stuart have already been ruled out for the season.
