Manchester United 2 – 1 Chelsea

Vidic scores United's second goal. He was quick on his feet and the Chelsea defence were flat-footed and ball watching.

Manchester United all but sealed the English Premier League title after a 2-1 home win over rivals Chelsea at Old Trafford.

United need only one point for from their remaining two games to win a record 19th title.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insisted victory would effectively end Chelsea’s reign as champions and return the Premier League crown to United.

United wasted no time in exerting their authority on Chelsea as Javier Hernandez struck after only 37 seconds and captain Nemanja Vidic headed the second in a blistering opening spell that set up the victory.

Frank Lampard gave Chelsea a glimmer of hope with a goal after 68 minutes, but United were not to be denied.

United remaining two games are against strugglers Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool.
