‘Snakes on a train’ – Deadly snakes found in Vietnam

A genuine King Cobra as seen on the Hanoi express - beware of imitations.Four bags of deadly snakes have been found on a train travelling from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi in Vietnam.

A guard and a conductor found them while inspecting the train when it made a stop at Quang Ngai railway station on Thursday.

The bags contained an undetermined number of snakes. Newswarped is guessing the train guards were in no hurry to count them one by one.

It has been confirmed that the inventory of assorted snakes did include some King Cobras, which are the world’s longest venomous snake, growing up to 4 metres in length.

Vietnam’s VnExpress news channel reports that the passengers panicked when they heard about the snakes. Quite understandable really.

The snakes, which are protected by law in Vietnam, were handed over to the Quang Ngai forest protection agency on Friday and released into the wild.

Some of the snakes weighed over a kilo each, said Nguyen Van Han, chief of the forest protection unit.

Officials in Quang Ngai say they are going to increase patrols and inspections on the North-South railway and roads to prevent the smuggling of wild animals.

Four bags of snakes would certainly be an unusual addition to any self-respecting railway lost property department. Well done to the officials in Vietnam on achieving a happy ending.
