Elisabeth Murdoch pays $194,000 for a cardboard box

Elisabeth Murdoch, the daughter of Rupert Murdoch has won a charity auction for a cardboard medical box that was supposed to be signed by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Elisabeth made her winning bid at a charity dinner in London last week hosted by ARK (Absolute Return for Kids) which was attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Seated at the same table as the royal couple, Ms Murdoch made the bid after the auctioneer said the cardboard medical box, designed to hold child vaccination doses, would be signed by the Duke and Duchess, along with British Prime Minister David Cameron and US rock band the Kings of Leon.

It turns out that Elisabeth has ended up the proud owner of a cardboard box without the royal signatures after the protocol police at St James’s Palace, insist that couple did not sign the item and that it goes against protocol for them to have done so.

So it seems that Elisabeth’s money has at least gone to a good cause even if she hasn’t got much to show for it.

The ARK fundraiser was a roaring success, raising over US$28 million for the charity.

  1. The plot really thickens. It has now been revealed that Elisabeth Murdoch and her husband Matthew Freud held a party the day before the Dowler revelations at their home, Burford Priory. Amongst the guests was one Andrew Davis, whose Von Essen hotel empire recently collapsed with debts of hundreds of millions.
