US country music superstar Glen Campbell has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

His wife Kim Campbell has made the announcement saying she wanted fans to understand that when her 75 year-old husband “flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage”, they know why.

Glen Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s six months ago and plans to retire from recording and performing later this year after a farewell concert tour. He had a string of worldwide hits in the 1970’s with songs like Rhinestone Cowboy and Wichita Lineman.

“I still love making music, and I still love performing for my fans. I’d like to thank them for sticking with me through thick and thin,” Mr Campbell said.

Newswarped loves the way Glen Campbell helped put country music on the international stage. Along with John Denver he had the whole world tapping their toes to what have became classic tunes.
