Vancouver riot kissing couple identified

Can't a guy get some privacy around here?!!

The couple caught on camera kissing on the ground in the middle of a riot following the Stanley Cup final in Vancouver have been identified as Australian, Scott Jones, 29, and Canadian, Alex Thomas.

Scott Jones and his Canadian girlfriend, Alex Thomas, were captured in a passionate embrace during the riot that followed the Canucks’ Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins. The photo’s of them kissing went viral around the world.

Now that they have been identified the mystery of how they came to be kissing at such an awkward moment has been solved.

Scott Jones father Brett told CBC News that “Alex got knocked by a [police] shield and fell to the ground,” he told CBC News. “[Scott] was comforting her and gave her a kiss to say, ‘it’s going to be OK’, and the photographer just took the shot at that moment.”

Brett Jones said Scott is fine, and Alex suffered a bruised leg when she fell to the ground.

Hannah Jones – Scott’s sister says that Scott recently began dating Thomas, a former student at the University of Guelph in Ontario.

She said Scott had been in Canada for six months working as a bartender and trying to break into acting and standup comedy.

The two have been overwhelmed with international media attention following the spread of the picture around the world.

“They are both just totally stunned by it, actually,” said Brett.

Scott is in Vancouver on a work visa, and is leaving in a few days for the U.S, and then will head back to Australia.
