William and Catherine give royal approval for Mexican wave

Not what we are used to seeing from the royals but we like it - don't we?

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined in the crowd antics at Wimbledon, even joining a Mexican wave and chatting with fellow fans.

The Mexican wave – disgusting. You wouldn’t catch Prince Phillip and the Queen jumping up and down with the common people. Dignity and manners, that is what sets royalty apart from their subjects.

William and Catherine joined in in giving Andy Murray a standing ovation after he stormed into the quarter finals with a straight-sets victory over Frenchman Richard Gasquet.

The British No. 1, who spoke briefly to the couple after his match, admitted to being surprised by their presence on Centre Court, adding that if he had known they were attending, he would have shaved first.

Murray, who executed a theatrical bow to the royal box, said: “I was thinking to myself as I came off that I was sweaty and very hairy. I said to them, ‘I’m sorry, I’m a bit sweaty’. If I’d known they were coming, I would have shaved. I’ve been told to shave by a few people the last five or six days, and I just haven’t got around to it.”

That is right Andy, show your defiance as a Scotsman and not shave. Show those English that you will not groom yourself to suit their taste. Andy could have even had a William Wallace moment when meeting the Royals – “You can take away my razor but you can never take away my temper.”

Careful William - what will Grandma say? All this cavorting around with commoners.
