US mother gives birth to massive baby

JaMichaelBrown takes some timeout from all the media attention.

A mother in Texas has given birth to a baby boy who turned out to be four pounds bigger than doctors were predicting.

Janet Johnson from Longview, East Texas gave birth to JaMichael Brown last Friday night at the Good Shepherd Medical Centre in Longview. JaMichael weighed in at 16 pounds, 1 ounce and doctors say he might be one of the biggest babies in Texas State history.

“Everybody was amazed that he was so big,” Johnson, 39, said. “I don’t think too many people have heard of having a 16-pound baby.”

Johnson has gestational diabetes, which results in bigger newborns for many mothers. JaMichaels father is a big chap at over 2 metres tall. Doctors had estimated JaMichael would be around 12 pounds prior to the cesarean birth.

Guinness World Records says the heaviest newborn ever recorded weighed 23 pounds, 12 ounces, born to an Ohio woman in 1879.
