US suspends military aid package to Pakistan

It is difficult for the Pakistan army having to fire on their own people. Perhaps they could get some advisors from Syria to help? Maybe the CIA could jack it up - they have connections with the Syrians don't they?

The US says it is withholding $800 million in military aid to Pakistan as both countries struggle to adjust to their new post-Osama Bin Laden era.

White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley has told ABC television that Pakistan had “taken some steps that have given us reason to pause on some of the aid”.

He said the US raid that killed Osama Bin Laden in May had affected ties but he insisted the relationship “must be made to work over time”.

The $800m equates to about a third of the annual US security aid to Pakistan, US officials say.

Daley explained “It’s a complicated relationship in a very difficult, complicated part of the world.”

Yes that right the relationship is ‘complicated’ so newswarped will do its best to simplify it for you.

The US wants Pakistan to bop the terrorists in Pakistan big time and provide a stable base for US operations in Afghanistan. They are also pissed that some in the Pakistan military must have known about Bin Laden’s residency in Pakistan.

Pakistan wants the help from the US but they would like it to be a little less public. Drones buzzing around the countryside assassinating people and US commando teams flying in and killing Bin
Laden is not what they had in mind.

Recent polls show that 69% of Pakistanis see the US as more of an enemy than a partner. This is starting to sound like South Vietnam all over again. The only bonus is that the US does not have major forces on the ground in Pakistan to provide target practice for insurgents. The cunning US government has instead stationed them in neighbouring Afghanistan where of course they are much safer.
