Hundreds of people have rioted in the North London suburb of Tottenham overnight, throwing petrol bombs and setting police cars and buildings.

About 300 people gathered outside the police station on the High Road after demonstrators demanded “justice” over the fatal police shooting of 29-year-old Mark Duggan last Thursday.

Eight injured police officers were taken in hospital and two patrol cars destroyed.

Shops in the area were looted, with people seen pushing away shopping trolleys full of goods. One local resident said that looting continued beyond daybreak on Sunday.

A double-decker bus was set on fire at the junction of High Road and Brook Street while a shop on the High Road was also set alight.

We are not having a recession by any chance are we? It seems to be a universal rule that riots flare up when people have time on their hands. This time is created by annoying things like unemployment.
